Merlin
Release 2.3.84
The Merlin -Version 84 release contains some improvements, notably the VetXML laboratory process has received some enhancements and some visual changes are implemented in the settings - code entry screens. These are in preparation for an improved 'Prescription workflow' which is due in the near future, go to the improvements section for full details on these changes . We have also fixed quite a few bugs in this release further improving usability.

1) VetXML changes
We have added multiple enhancements to the Lab Request screen
Simplification of the Lab request Submission process
With the previous process you have to save a lab request and go to a different tab to submit the request. The improved process gives you the ability to:
- select a Lab Request code and ‘Save and Send’ with one click.
- Default mailing group pre-selected in Lab Request Submission pop-up.
- The save button on the Lab request screen still exists, if the user wants to save and submit at a later time.
Prevention of duplicate submission of Lab Requests
Previously the same request could be submitted multiple times, the new process disables the send button after the request has been sent.
View Report
Previously the lab report was available only in the treatments screen for a patient which is difficult to find.
The new process shows the report under Integrations > Lab Reports – it is much easier to find the report here.
Some further small enhancements to usability
- Addition of a description column to the Lab Requests table - User can make an informed decision on which request code to use.
- Ability to soft delete lab requests which are wrong or incorrectly created - soft delete hides the record from the screen and prevents use in the future but still available for previously submitted requests.
- Ability to soft delete entire categories - previously only able to delete when the category was empty with no associated request code.
2) Advanced Prescriptions – revised workflow providing improved efficiency when creating and dispensing prescriptions.
What has changed?
Some changes are visible in Merlin - settings - code entry screens. These changes are just visual and do not affect or impact the current way you use prescriptions, they are there to enable further prescription functionality that will improve the experience, which will be delivered in a later release.
Why have we made these changes?
We have revised the prescriptions flow to streamline the way prescriptions are handled in Merlin, and to add additional functionality in the future, that will improve efficiency.
Some administration changes will be visible and are part of this release, but changes to improve the prescription workflows will be available in the near future.
3) Repeat prescriptions – the time column removed from the repeat prescriptions list
What has changed?
The time column has been removed from the reception prescriptions tab table.
Why have we made these changes?
Merlin prescriptions are timed on a day basis as opposed to the minute, so the column was of no benefit.
4) Reduce max size of template inline with Merlin size <15MB
We have reduced the maximum size of templates in line with email size <15MB, because templates were previously failing to generate and mail merge due to the size being larger than 10MB.

- Clipper now correctly re-directs to client/patient
- Wholesale PO number now includes last digit from Tote Sheet
- 'Send Message on Euthanasia' now only sent to default site users
- Create Blank document template option now opens document editor when it is selected after creating a prescription
- Patient weight does now updates correctly if it is the same value
- Debtor Chase up letter now generates correctly
- Surgeon name no longer changes when adding Treatment document
- Kennel – Now able to send patient to Kennel
- Treatment draft items now displayed in correct order when composite item added
- Opening the chip receipt after is has been registered no longer opens in the same window
- Label calculation quantity was failing to work in certain situations and now works correctly
- Printable medical history documents screen now appears when 'Include Archive Data' is selected on history report
- Till takings enabled - If newly created credits are linked to older items you are now able to delete
- Error fixed when clicking on an attached image in the email client dialog
- Html file now generates actual file content
- View History context menu option – no longer results in an error
- Repeat prescription surgeon - 'prescribed by' field is now populated when adding repeat prescription
- Changing the site default: Client category now saves changes correctly
- Discounts can now be added in Merlin if user does not have the "Accounts - Credit" user permission available
- Changing the name and text of a non-system payment methods in Libraries now works correctly
- Changing the stock centre for an item, through 'repeat for today' on treatment history now works correctly
- When an SMS template is deleted, it no longer populates the text box with template details
- Incorrect surgeon is no longer selected when saving treatments - surgeon list is now displayed after the treatment setting is selected
- Health care plan renewals - If a plan is ended/suspended as renewal date passes, then plan will never automatically renew again
- Appointment priority color is now displaying correctly on card, hospital, operation, radiology, repeat prescription, and ultrasound day lists
